And the winners are….(David Pierce Fund)

Yesterday marked the tenth anniversary of Marlboro student David Pierce’s death. His family has generously established a fund in his memory to support the purchase of fun, not necessarily academic items for the library each year. And each year, we’ve been asking for your nominations for items to buy, compiling them into a ballot, and sending it out to students for a vote.

This year, we received a total of 39 nominations, and 57 of you voted. The winners are:

  • A Crack-Up at the Race Riots, Harmony Korine (book)
  • Breaking Bad: The Complete First Season (DVD)
  • Sexual Behavior in the Human Female, Alfred Kinsey (book)
  • A Prairie Home Companion, 25th Anniversary Edition (CD)
  • Gilmore Girls: The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (DVD)
  • The Legend of Korra, Book 1: Air (DVD)

This will arrive at the library over the next few weeks; look for them on the new books display as they come in.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s selection process! This tradition is a lovely tribute to David’s memory. I hope that everyone enjoys these great new additions to the collection.

  1. What a neat way to memorialize a person! Not sure if these choices reflect the honoree, but with the voting, you’re reaching the current users!

    • Thanks, Jeanne! I never got to meet David, but some of those on campus who knew him have said that the choices are very much in keeping with his memory. It’s a wonderful way to keep his memory alive; we are very grateful for his family’s generosity.
